Hand Felted Boots

I've been toying with a few felting ideas for quite some time now, but I've been putting them on hold since my little one took most of my time and energy. When I stumbled upon a photo of sewn baby boots I decided I have to give it a try.

First I had to figure out a god cut and size, then I had to figure out the best way to make sheets od felt out of our chow's undercoat, and finally sew it all together. I wasn't completely convinced that the project will be a success since every of the steps above was my first try and mostly guesswork, similar projects I found online and some logic. That's probably why I'm really proud of how it all turned out even though there is much room for improvement.
 
Wet felting turned out a success. Chow undercoat has much shorter strands than wool so the felt turned out a bit fragile, but I'll try stressing it a bit more in order to (hopefully) get a firmer shit of felt.
 
I'm planning to make a few smaller items next. Maybe some Christmass tree ornaments.
I think I have some icy-white husky undercoat leftovers somewhere... :)

Black on White

Black and white again! (Or, more precisely, black and cream, since the undercoat came from my black and cream chows.) I just had to try felting a small black paw on a cream surface and I have to say I'm very happy with the result.

Ponovno se zabavljam crnim i bijelim! (Točnije crnim i krem, s obzirom na to da je narukvica izrađena od poddlake mojeg crnog i krem chowa.) Jednostavno sam morala probati nafilcati crnu capicu na krem površinu i moram priznati da sam jako zadovoljna rezultatom.

Caffe, Blu, Song and Inya, or more precisely; black, blue, cream chow undercoat and a nice icy white husky undercoat. All ready for new projects!

Little Paw

This one I proudly wear around my neck! Its a little felt paw made from my cream chow chow's undercoat. I just have to think of some little trinket to make from my black chow's undercoat to have a black and white pair - the same as my chow boys.

Ovaj privjesak posnosno nosim oko vrata! Šapica filcana od poddlake mog krem chow chowa. Još se samo moram sjetiti neke zgodne sitnice koju bi mogla napraviti od poddlake mog crnog chowa tako da imam crno-bijeli par - baš kao moja dva chow dečka.

These is something I really wanted to try for a while now. I've seen amazing hand felted figurines on the Internet and, having two chows at home, I really wanted to find out if their undercoat can be felted. I tried and - it can! So here it is - hand felted paws made from my black and cream chows' undercoat.

Ovo je nešto što sam već dugo htjela probati! Na Internetu sam vidjela prekrasne ručno filcane figurice, a kako kod kuće imam dva chow chowa, htjela sam saznati može li se njihova poddlaka filcati. Pokušala sam i - može! Rezultat filcanja su ove dvije šapice napravljene od  poddlake mog crnog i krem chowa.
